Hello and welcome to HCM, If there is suspicion of some psychiatric illness in your known one, the first step is to consult a psychiatrist. Complete clinical history and relevant investigations are required to diagnose the condition. If a diagnosis of bipolar illness is confirmed there are very effective medications available to control the symptoms of bipolar illness. These drugs include - lithium, sodium valproate and cabmazapine. However, these drugs have to be taken under strict psychiatric supervision.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
