Suggest Treatment For Bleeding From Capillaries While Treating Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
Hello Dr. Galamaga, I have Elhers Danlos syndrome and I have started bleeding from my capillaries. Most of the pin point bleeds are on the tops of my feet, however, they are spreading and showing up in various other areas. My CBC was normal. Should I be worried?
Unfortunately, capillary bleeding in EDS is a common occurrence. Keeping your weight within a healthy BMI will help keep excessive weight from being put on your blood vessels causing them to burst. Controlling your blood pressure will also be of benefit. If the capillary breakage is primarily in the lower legs you can try wearing compression socks that go up to the knee to provide vascular stability while moving around. Physical therapy to strengthen the muscles may also be beneficial in the long run. Capillary breakage just in the foot can be managed by compression socks that go to the ankle. When you sit down to relax, raise your legs higher than your heart to give things a rest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Kathy Shattler, Dietitian & Nutritionist
