Hello, Your mother is suffering from bleeding hemorrhoids, hemorrhoids can be internal or external. Thrombosed hemorrhoids cause inflammation, bleeding and pain. You are suggested to get your mother clinically examined by a colorectal surgeon, visual exam or digital rectal examination s done to diagnose hemorrhoids. The colorectal surgeon may perform a colonoscopy to rule out other potential causes of rectal bleeding and hemorrhoid symptoms. Through performing a colonoscopy the treating doctor will not only detect internal hemorrhoids but also check for colorectal cancer and precancerous growths. Colorectal surgeons may perform hemorrhoidectomy, hemorrhoidopexy or hemorrhoid laser treatment. Depending upon the pathology the treating doctor may recommend electrocoagulation, sclerotherapy, rubber band ligation, etc. In the meantime, cold compression may help, she should always use moist wipes, sitz bath and witch hazal pads may be helpful. She can take Naproxen or Combiflam, one SOS to help reduce inflammation and pain.
