Suggest Treatment For Bleeding In Gums When Diagnosed With Cirrhosis
My 52 year old brother has late stage cirrhosis and has had rectal and esophageal bleeding in the past. Recently, he is having bleeding gums, spider veins on face, and severe lethargy. He spends most of his time lying down and sometimes passes out upon standing. He is in denial about his condition but at times becomes frightened and calls my sister and voices his health concerns. What should we do to help him, especially the recent gum bleeding preventing him from eating? He rarely eats and has wasted except for his enlarged abdomen.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
Bleeding from his gums is due to gum infection leading to inflammation of gums and as any inflamed tissue has a higher tendency to bleed therefore his gums are bleeding..
I would suggest you to consult an. Oral Physician and get evaluated and Scaling of the teeth and antiseptic gum ointment massage can help..
As of now he should gargle with antiseptic mouthwash, do warm saline gargles and do gum paint massage over the gums. Give him a soft diet..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
