Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had a blighted ovum pregnancy and natural miscarriage. I thought that the miscarriage was complete after about a week of bleeding then it stopped but was still spotting brown discharge. I have not had one day where I haven t had to use a sanitary napkin and it s going on 6 weeks. Approximately 3 days ago the bleeding started heavily again and I noticed black clots and am still bleeding. No fever, no real pain other than minor discomfort. do you think this is cause for concern or could it be my first cycle after the miscarriage?
As you mentioned you had blighted ovum pregnancy followed by miscarriage & continued vaginal discharge with recent heavy bleeding. In this case, yes it can be start of normal periods. But you have to rule out complete removal of the products of conception from your uterus which is always a source of Uterine bleeding (with clots) with chances of uterine infections.
If this is the case, it could be very harmful. How to rule out, you need to undergo an Ultrasound scan. So, I strongly recommend get in touch with a gynecologist to sort out the issue immediately.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nipan Chandra Das, General & Family Physician
