Suggest Treatment For Blocked Saliva Gland

Hi :) one of my cheeks is swollen but not painful and I can feel a lump by my bottom back teeth, however I can also feel a little lump on the other side... My doc thinks it's a blocked saliva gland but it's not painful and he didn't really explain how it can be sorted?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if you have a painless lump on the cheek and is diagnosed as a blocked salivary gland then there is a possibility that you have an obstruction in the duct of the salivary gland due to formation of Sialoliths that are salivary stones formed from the minerals present in saliva while it can also be due to foreign body obstructing the duct opening..

In such case the swelling is painless only as the gland gets expanded due to accumulation of saliva in it..

It can be confirmed by getting an x ray done and MRI of the salivary gland under supervision of an Oral Surgeon or an ENT expert..

In case if the duct is blocked then if the blockage is superficial you can get it removed by manual palpation of the stone over the duct and pushing it towards opening..
Deeper stones needs surgical removal under assistance of Sialography..

As of now chew sugar free chewing gums, suck tart candies and drink plenty of water as at times the stones can get removed with the flow of saliva..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
