Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Occasionally my peripheral vision gets shimmery or shakey. The episodes last only a few minutes, but it is disorienting. It has only happened twice. Once about a month ago and once today. What could it be? Should I go see an ophthalmologist or would a physician be better
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have blurred vision . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like abrasions to the cornea , cataracts , infectious retinitis , migraine headaches , optic neuritis , retinopathy such as diabetic retinopathy and stroke . I would suggest you to to go for your appointment to your doctor . Doctor may order CT scan , check for intraocular pressure , ophthalmoscopy , refraction and blood testing to determine if bacteria is in the blood and treat acordingly like prescribing antibiotics and anti inflammatory . Doctor may also refer you to neurologist for migraine or endocrinologist for diabetes .I would suggest you to wash your eyes with cold water twice a day , wear glasses to protect them for dust and eat healthy diet . Do not stain your eyes too much and take ibuprofen for pain .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
