Suggest Treatment For Body Weakness

I have recently had a positive result on an rnp test. I have been experiencing all over body weakness. Some days worse than others. Hard to get out of bed some days or even out of the car. It takes a minute to get my gait normal . Have been tested since December 1997 for MS. Due to no demylination on the brain no diagnoses yet. Symptoms getting worse effecting my strength and heart. Any thoughts on what I might be looking at.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

A positive RNP is indicative of mixed connective tissue disease which includes primarily 3 diseases viz scleroderma, polymyositis and SLE. You may get many organs or tissues involved in this condition like skin, joints, muscles, heart, lungs, kidneys and esophagus along with anemia, hearing loss etc.

If you have MS then you would have fatigue, blurring of vision, weakness of limbs, numbness, coordination difficulties, etc. Please note, these symptoms can be present in other nervous system diseases also. You may go for following tests for MS, MRI of brain and spinal cord which would show abnormalities, evoked potential tests for the nerves to see the time taken for response by nerves by electrical stimulation, spinal fluid tests by lumbar puncture where fluid from the spinal cord is tested.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
