Suggest Treatment For Bone Bruise And Arthritis In Knee

I was diagnosed with a bone bruise this week. I had an almost fall in April where I broke my ankle & prolly twisted my knee; the knee pain was just soreness & slight aching at first. After being in a boot 10 weeks, I got out of it & started PT to find I could not do for severe pain in knee & burning and severe pain in foot. Knee pain got much worse as I tried to walk & couldnt for the pressure causing pain constantly in foot. MRIs showed the bone bruise & arthritis in the knee quiet severe. Foot had several stress fractures so I m back in a boot & knee brace on too. I can not walk comfortably w/both! Should I use crutches & keep from causing more pressure & stress on my knee? It seems no matter how easy I try, walking is causing knee to throb so I knw the positions I m in are making more stress on it. Any suggestions to make this new adjustment smoother and less stress and pain to result to either injury?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I can understand your concern. As the injury has been quite severe, it is advisable to take adequate rest and avoid pressurizing the joint. Healing takes time and the least you move, quicker the recovery will be.

Although, I suggest you follow your orthopedic surgeons advice regarding precautions. Fractures take time to heal. So do not rush into walking, less you move quicker the recovery will be. Pain killers and other supplemental medicines as per the doctor's advice should be taken for relief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
