Hi Doctor, I developed hypothyroid 6 years ago, I was first diagnosed with borderline hypothyroid but not treated for two years when I was prescribed 25mg thyroxine and nothing further for another 12 months when I was prescribed 50mg thyroxine, today I am on 100mg thyroxine, but have not lost an ounce of the 2 and a half stone in weight I gained during the long dragged out treatment of my thyroid problem. neither has all the other symptoms associated with the condition abated, I would be obliged if you could offer some answers. thank you Margaret
Hi Thank you for posting your query in HCM. I had gone through your question I understand your concerns. Hypothyroidism leads to increase in the weight .weight loss can be achieved only by keeping TSH levels with in normal range by taking thyroxine regularly and changing lifestyle modifications by getting regular physical activity and by having a healthy and balanced diet that should include low carbohydrates, high protein, low fats. Add more more servings of vegetables and fruits, drink 3 litres of water per day. Include oats, brown rice, chapati, dal, salad. Avoid white rice, white sugar, honey, fast foods, junk foods, deep fried foods. Hope i have answered your question if you have further questions i will be happy to help.
