Suggest Treatment For Borderline Personality Disorder
I am concerned about my wife having a borderline personality disorder. She is depressed most of the time. She has a very low self image and isolates herself from me on a regular basis. I have attempted to force counseling for her and that did not work. She did not talk to me for over three weeks and just stayed in the bedroom watching TV or sleeping. She complains all the time and then she will be on a high for no reason. She now wants to be in control of her life and funds. She has always been in charge of her life. I am one of those very supportive husbands. I am not sure what I should do.
Hello and thank you for your question. This is a difficult problem. There are many problems that she could have including depression and bipolar disorder. If she has a personality disorder then long term counseling is needed. Cognitive behavioral therapy is often helpful. If she has depression or bipolar disorder then medications can be helpful. She needs to see a doctor or psychiatrist to get an adequate diagnosis. Unfortunately, it will not work for you to force the issue. She will have to desire a change in her circumstances and want to make the change herself. The best that you can do is to be supportive and kind to her. Thank you for using HCM
