Suggest Treatment For Bowel Issues In An Elderly Person
my 93 year old grandmother has had bowl problems the last 3 days now. She has had less than 8oz cup of water,4crackers,2 toast 1 egg and hash brown in3 days and after she eats she is in the bathroom. I hav not tried to feed her full meals for this reason. What should I do? I even gave her pepto bismo
The need to pass motion after the foods you are giving to an old person indicates that there may be an intestinal infection or intolerance to particular food stuff. This can be diagnosed by stopping particular food that is expected to cause such a problem. Also give her yogurt, banana, and probiotics. If the stool test shows infection an antibiotic cover may be needed. Give her enough fluids SP that dehydration is avoided and electrolyte balance is maintained.
If there is any complication, it is better to take her to a hospital for clinical evaluation, examination, investigations and treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T Chandrakant
