Are There Any Drug Interactions Between Pepto, tagamet & Prilosec?

I ve been having gas and belching for the past week. My hands, armpits and feet all sweat very bad at times after I eat. I sometimes become short of breath and get dizzy. I was given Fomotadine a week ago and had an EKG and 4 chest xrays which turned out fine. But I ended up having a bad allergic reaction to the Fomotadine & had to go to the ER where they gave me Benadryl & 20mg of Prednisone. Since then I followed up with Pepto Bysmol and Tagamet. The Tagamet did seem to help. But I read on the box that said do not take if you re sweating. I had initially taken it about an hour or so after taking the Pepto and my fingers became numb. I did end up falling asleep and when I woke up I felt a lot better. Should I be conitnuing to take the Tagamet for immediate help. I have some Prilosec to take. But do not know if I can take it with the sweating. Are there any drug interactions between Pepto, Tagamet & Prilosec.

Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of functional bowel disease and the sweating is likely to be related to the same. There is an interaction between Bismuth salicylate (Pepto Bysmol) and Omeprazole that the latter increases the absorption of the former. The warning about Tagamet is that some people may develop an adverse reaction to it and it may manifest as sweating, but in your case the sweating was present before you took Tagamet and hence is not an adverse reaction. Therefore, you can take as it gives you relief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
