Suggest Treatment For Brachioradial Pruritus

Can anyone help with info or a treatment for brachioradial pruritus? Ive been suffering for months with the burning and itching tingly skin, especially when I am hot or sweating and mostly at night, which keeps me awake. It is debilitating and I m not sure which specialist to see first. My arms are scratched raw at times and it s awful. I have scabbed over scars and bruising from the itchies as I call them. I hate this. I have not changed any soaps, detergents, lotions, etc. But I do have a hx of cervical spine injury from whiplash in a car accident 14 years ago that has caused chronic neck pain & numbness. Please give me some advice.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi! Welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, if it is accompanied by a rash or skin lesions than dermatologist is the right person to be reviewed and herpes or nerve dermatomes involvement needs to be ruled out.

A neurologist opinion or involvement of nerves and nerve conduction studies to see functional issues should be done. May also be sequence of that whiplash injury that you had experienced.

For itching anti histamines like cetrizine or loratidine can be helpful. Otherwise nerve pain suppressants like gabapentin or duloxetine may be helpful. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Regards
