Suggest Treatment For Breathing Difficulty In An Elderly Person With Hypertension
My 69 year old husband becomes winded and laboured breathing on exertion...eg...climbing the stairs in our home. He has 2 stents...and hypertension is controlled by drugs. This laboured breathing has become evident in the last month or so. No cold or flu..no chest pains...but I think I need to insist he see the family doctor.
Difficulty breathing is common when climbing stairs in elderly, especially when he had 2 stents. Please answer the following questions to help you better:
1) How many stairs can he climb without having breathing issues?
2) Does he have any swelling of feet?
Since you said, his BP is under control and there is no chest pain, next time you visit the doctor, check his Hemoglobin and also do an echo if possible to look for any reducing heart function. If both are normal, there is nothing much to worry.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Samuel
