Suggest Treatment For Breathing Difficulty While Having Cold

My husband is usually fit and healthy, but after a bad cold around 2 months ago, he has been really short of breath and constantly tired. He would regularly ride a few 100km, but now, he can hardly walk up stairs. He has had lung X-rays which were clear. We thought it may have been asthma, but tests show that is not the case. YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Shortness of breath can be caused by the lungs or the heart problems, in some cases, anemia or side effects of medications should be considered.
Because the chest x-rays and lung examinations are normal, your husband can have tests to investigate for other problems such as:
- CBC and ERS for anemia and inflammation
- An ECG and heart ultrasound to check the heart
- basic metabolic profile to evaluate the kidneys, liver, sugar levels, lipids, etc.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
