Suggest Treatment For Breathing Problem At Night

I have a son of 5 years. He has breathing problem at night. Montreal Children Hospital checked his problem and found that he has very big adenoid and need to be removed. But doctor gave other taste relating to the sleep apnea (I do not know what kind of test are they). At night he stops breathing for sometimes (few seconds) and then open his mouth to breath. He wakes up very easily. I did not get a particular time or appointment from the hospital and the desk secretary told me that it may take even a year to do the operation. I am afraid that if the operation is not done immediately further damage will occur to my son. Do you have any idea what can I do now? any private clinic? and how much it may cost? Thanks a lot in advance for your suggestion.

Hello,
Welcome to HCM,

The adenoids are lymph tissue that lies in our upper airway between our nose and the back of our throat. They are similar to the tonsils.
Enlarged adenoids means this tissue is swollen.Infections can cause the adenoids to become swollen.
Children with enlarged adenoids often breathe through their mouth because their nose is blocked. Mouth breathing occurs mostly at night, but may be present during the day. This may cause following symptoms:
-Bad breath
-Cracked lips
-Dry mouth
-Persistent runny nose or nasal congestion
-Sleep problems -episodes of not breathing during sleep (sleep apnea), restless during sleep, snoring a lot
-Frequent ear infections

Following tests are done to diagnose:
1.Endoscopy -in this test doctor will see the nasal passages and adenoids on screen by inserting a small, flexible tube with a lighted camera on its end into the nose or throat.
2.X-ray of the throat or neck; CT scan and MRI done if required.
3.Sleep study

No need to worry. Many children with enlarged adenoids have few or no symptoms and do not need treatment. Adenoids shrink as a child grows older.
Doctors prescribe antibiotics and nasal spray if infection occurs.
But if the symptoms are severe and persistent then surgery needs to be done to remove the adenoids(Adenoidectomy).

So, no need to worry, consult the near by doctor and get the tests done as suggested by him. You can also consult a good Homoeopath as there are good results in homoeopathy in these cases.

Hope this will help
