Had unprotected sex but I am on tri nessA birth control and take it everyday without missing a pill. A little I ve 24 hours after I had unprotected sex I took plan B. Today I was suppose to get my period but only got brown like discharge that is normally at end of my period. I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. Should I be worried ? What should I do? General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Actually if you were taking birth control pills regularly without a break. There was no chance of pregnancy.
Even then you had taken plan B emmetgency contraceptive within 24 hours of unprotected sex. So there was no chance of conception.
Now, Plan B has high dose hormones in it.This causes hormonal imbalance in body.&periods are postponed by 8-10 days.
The brown discharge you had on the expected day of periods was indicative of clearance of plan B medicines from your bleeding & you would get your routine period in comming 8-10 days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
