Suggest Treatment For Bruise In The Groin Area Caused By Incision

My husband had Ablation (heart surgery) on Tuesday. In order to stop the bleeding, they applied pressure by hand and then put some suction looking device that applies pressure. It bled longer than they had anticipated, but it finally stopped. The incision in his groin area is not infected or anything like that, but the bruise has traveled all the way to his knee. It is still extremely deep purple. We put cold on it today, but it sure does not look any better. We understand the bruise, but I am a little worried that it has been 6 days now. I would think that it would start looking a little better by now, but don t really know. Should we just give it more time and is there anything else we can do outside of ice.
