Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my friend got a wasp sting on her calve about a week ago. It turned into a large bruise about the size of a palm and the location of the sting is now a shallow, round hole. This doesn t seem like a normal reaction to a wasp sting, should we be concerned?
It is nothing but an inflammatory reaction to a wasp sting. It is quite common with an insect bite.
As of now, you can take an antihistamine like cetirizine or hydroxyzine to control reaction. Apply icepacks also. If there is pain you can take analgesics like aceclofenac for pain relief.
Generally, everything settles by a couple of days. If symptoms persist better to consult a physician and get evaluated. In that case, you might require steroids also.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
