Suggest Treatment For Bruise On The Left Hand

I had an IV put in my left hand last Tues, Nov. 1. I bruise very easily and as soon as the nurse removed the IV the whole top of my hand, 3 wide by 4 long into top of fingers, became dark and bruised looking. This is a week later and the size is still the same but the discoloration has become a medium purple. How long should something like this last? Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be due to conditions like thrombophlebitis.

As of now you can apply heparin ointment for symptomatic relief.

Generally it will settle by conservative measures.

If lesion persist better to consult a general surgeon and evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
