Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband bruised his rt shin on exercise equip and has a big bruise 2 weeks ago. He then developed a 3 in blister on top the bruised skin. He covered it so he wouldn t bump it but it began leaking and there was some swelling in the leg. He saw his doctor who put a gauze bandage on it with a wrapped the lower leg and prescribed 10 day atbx and elevate the leg as much as possible. It was draining through the layers of bandages. He returned to the Dr and he cleaned the wound and wrapped it again with a uniboot (spelling). It is draining through again. I don t see how the wound with no skin on it will heal wrapped with no air on it. I m thinking he should see a wound specialist as it is going on 3 weeks.
* The issue with wound and discharge from blister indicate soft tissue infection with certain bugs which may be resistant to conventional antibiotics.
* Kindly consult an expert surgeon and discuss the need of wound culture report ahead which will guide best medical management to heal faster.
* Control of blood sugar and local care with antiseptic dressing are also of paramount importance here.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
