Suggest Treatment For Bruising And Swelling On The Fingers
i believe I broke a blood vessel at the base of my fingers... It was a sharp pain, then bruising and swelling. There was some numbness in the finger & the one next to it. That was last night. Today it remains slightly swollen, bruised and the feeling on numbness is still there. I did it while opening the freezer. Should I be concerned? I am a healthy 47 yr old female.
Spontaneous rupture of blood vessels can occur occasionally , they would usually resolve on their own within a week to 10 days.
During that time, the area may change color and become slightly yellow due to the breaking down of the blood.
Numbness is usually also temporary and should improve as the discoloration fades.
If you have repeat occurrences , then this would need to be assessed to determine if there are any issues with the blood vessels or blood itself that may be causing this problem. This would require imaging along with blood tests as well.
I hope this helps
