Suggest Treatment For Bruising On The Neck

I was being choked for th first this morning during sex. Now the area to the left of my Adam s apple feels lime it s bruised but there s no visible bruising. It also takes a little effort for me to swallow but not a lot. This was 6 hours ago and the swallowing isn t more difficult over time. Do I need to be seen by someone immediately or can I just take some OTC anti inflammatory meds

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You can use oral the counter anti inflammatory pain medicines since the pain is not increasing. In some cases, after trauma, pain increases by day 2 to 3 and then plateaus, so it is possible that it may increase later. Since accidental suffocation or severe injury to the throat can occur, it would be best to avoid this type of trauma in the future.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
