Hello. An inch long bump which appears suddenly and shows signs of inflammation like itchiness and redness is highly suggestive of an infection. It is even more likely since you give the history of camping one week back. My suspicions are cellulitis resulting from either a tick or mite bite. A course of antibiotics preferably doxycycline and amoxyclav should help. However, it may need incision and drainage if it increases in size and is filled with pus. If you are a diabetic, it may take a longer time to heal, especially if your sugar levels are not under control. Hope this helps. Regards, Dr Geeta
