Hello Sir, I have a baby girl of one and a half year old. Some pimple like appearance started appearing on her genital area since 5 months..initially it appeared as a rash which i thought to be as an allergy to diapers. After one month it appeared to be like pustules,3 in numbers..later there was found that pustules becoming dark centered. Now a new one has developed near to that.A similar one was started appearing on face too.We consulted a dermatologist and he told that it was Molluscum contagiosum infection. He told that surgery will work.Sir, will it get completely cured.is there any side effects. How to prevent such infections?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

This is a viral infection, and spread by contact. It is spread to other sites by self inoculating when they itch or prick them. If only few lesions, we can wait for spontaneous resolution. Many lesions disappear in 6-9 months. When indicated, treatment usually includes chemical or electrical cauterisation. Side effects of these treatment are less common and not serious. Avoid sharing towel with others until resolution

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
