Hi,
Your symptoms seem to be related to Primary
Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS) It is present more in women and mostly in Postmenopausal women. The reason may be
hormonal and to be more specific , it may be due to decreased level of
estrogen. Low estrogen level may also cause decreased salivation and hence, a feeling of dryness also.
Primary BMS usually resolves itself in few days to few months and sometimes a bit longer also. In the meanwhile, to ease the symptoms, you may try:
- Sucking small ice chips to lessen the burning sensation
- Drinking or sipping cold liquids
- Avoiding acidic foods like citrus fruits
- Avoiding drinks and foods that trigger the burning sensations particularly spicy foods and hot beverages
- Avoiding
smoking and alcohol if that worsens your symptoms
- If burning worsens after brushing the teeth, then switch to a tooth paste specifically meant for sensitive teeth and gums.
- Practice
relaxation techniques to relieve stress by Yoga or meditation
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
