Suggest Treatment For Burning Sensation And Feeling Of Having Lump In The Throat

I have had this burning sensation in my throat for the past couple weeks, like a lump in my throat when I swallow. It is really really painful and uncomfortable. I don t know what it caused it, but it won t go away no matter what I do. I ve been to the ENT doctor and he prescribed me omeprazole and antibiotics, but nothing has helped and I just want this pain in my throat to go away! He thinks it is GERD and acid reflux, and I ve tried changing what I eat and sleeping with a few bricks under the head of my bed.. I smoke too, and I ve also stopped smoking for a few days, but nothing seems to make it get better!. What do I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thanks for writing.

Burning sensation and lump in throat can be caused by several reasons like GERD, Chronic Pharyngitis, Globus sensation or any growth. You may require some diagnostic evaluation with tests like a Ambulatory pH test, barium swallow, endoscopy or some other tests. I can suggest you that you consult a physician who can investigate you properly to get to the root of the problem. In the mean i encourage your efforts to quit smoking and other lifestyle changes you are doing. They will surely help you in due course of time. I suggest you to increase your activity and start a regime of regular exercise and totally avoid any fast food, Tea, Coffee or spicy food which may be aggravating your condition.

Hope it helps.
