Suggest Treatment For Burning Sensation And Pain In The Coccyx Area

Hello, I have recently visited a doctor due to a horrible burning pain in my coccyx bone/area. It hurts even when I am not physically doing something. It burns when I walk, sit, lay down, or even stand. She checked the area and the skin looked perfectly fine, no visible swelling, lumps, or rash. I was given an anti inflamatory drug which has helped a little. Earlier today I noticed anal discharge, it is light brown and has a horrible odor. It does not hurt to use the restroom, there is no blood in my stool.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have a history of pain and burning sensation in the coccyx area, you are suggested to see orthopedics & get physically examined & get X-Ray (CAT, MRI if needed) done to rule out any injury, sacroiliitis, tailbone hairline crack or fracture.

The burning sensation that you are experiencing can be due to Sciatica or Shingles (Buttocks), get STD tests done, you may need antibiotics/antivirals). Anal discharge can be indicative of Pilonidal cyst infection. Neglect will result in the formation of abscess & it's painful. You can take Corticosteroid shots under your treating doctor if you can't bear with the pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
