Suggest Treatment For Burning Sensation In Esophagus After Burping

I accidentally burped up some oil from lunch (I know, TMI) and it went into my esophagus. Normally this wouldn t be a problem, but I now have the burning that normally happens when oil goes down the wrong way, as well as the burning from stomach acid. How can I neutralize the pain?

Hi, Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic. I am Dr.Aliem, and I am pleased to answer your query. The burping that you had is called 'gastroesophageal reflux' which is a normal phenomenon, occuring in almost every normal person. But when this causes troublesome symptoms like heart burns or burning sensation in the abdomen, it is called 'Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease' or 'GERD'. I would like to have the following details:
1. Your age/sex please
2. How often do you get these reflux episodes (i.e heart burns/abdominal burning sensation) in a day?
3. Any other illnesses you have - like diabetes, asthma, frequent chest infections, chronic dry cough?
Awaiting your reply. Dr.Aliem.
