Hello,

Your mother in law has PAD. She had angioplasty done on the leg. She has history of lupus and diabetes also. Presently she has pain in her feet. Successful angioplasty increases flow into the leg, and if that was the problem with walking; then pain would have reduced and walking would be easier.

You are suggested to get a follow up clinical examination done by the treating doctor at the earliest so that pathology causing discomfort can be treated at the earliest. Pain may arise due to post angioplasty complications like tissue or nerve damage and inflammation or infection. Patients with chronic diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, etc., may suffer from calcification of the main artery. She should control her blood sugar level at all cost.

She should take balanced, nutritive home made food and do exercise under a physical therapy to keep her arteries healthy. Calcification of the arteries are treated with a combination of medicines, excimer laser, stenting, atherectomy (excisional, orbital, etc.) Get her treated.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
