Suggest Treatment For Canker Sores In Mouth

My son's mouth is full of canker sores and he has a large cold sore and he says it feels like his gums are swelling. He was being treated for strep but both his cultures came back negative, which makes me wonder if the canker sores are in his throat. Any suggestions?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR CONCERN.

Brief Answer - Recurrent Gingivostoamtitis

As per your query canker sores in mouth which you are talking about is actually recurrent gingivostoamtitis that is the reason culture for streptococcus comes out to be negative. No its not at all throat infection. Its a viral infection of oral cavity which occur due to poor oral hygiene, stress and poor immunity of body.

I would suggest you to give anti viral drugs to your son such as Acyclovir 200 mg for five days. Apply topical antimicrobial ointment on gums . avoid salty, spicy and sharp food. Eat yogurt in diet. Dab small amount of milk of magnesia .

apply ice on sores near gingival area to subside swelling and inflammation. Brush teeth very slowly and gently. Your Son's symptoms will resolve in one week.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
