Suggest Treatment For Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

I am a manager at a pizzeria working 45 hours constantly using my hands and wrists. I also had twins 5 months ago. I have severe carpal tunnel in both hands and need surgery. This happened 3 months after delivery and one month after returning to work. I did not have carpal tunnel while pregnant. I want to know an opinion on what caused it I m debating on filing for workers comp.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Nonsurgical methods may help improve carpal tunnel syndrome, including Wrist splinting. A splint that holds your wrist still while you sleep can help relieve nighttime symptoms of tingling and numbness.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen (Advil), may help relieve pain from carpal tunnel syndrome in the short term.

Corticosteroids. -Your doctor may inject your carpal tunnel with a corticosteroid such as cortisone to relieve pain. Sometimes they use an ultrasound to guide these injections.

Corticosteroids decrease inflammation and swelling, which relieves pressure on the median nerve.

Oral corticosteroids aren't considered as effective as corticosteroid injections for treating carpal tunnel syndrome.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
