Hi..
Can understand your concern..
As per your complain if you have a cavity in tooth it is most commonly due to bacterial infection in the tooth leading to dissolution of the top enamel layer from acid formed by the bacteria and proceeding down to
dentin which is softer than enamel and the decay causes the faster spread of infection in dentin..
The colour of dentin is light yellowish and when there is infection it appears brownish black..
When the infection is superficial there is no sensitvity and pain and as the infection progresses further towards nerves there is sensitivity to
cold and hot and gradually pain begins with the exposure of nerves and inflammation leading to
Pulpitis..
As there is occassional pain you should get an
x ray done by a dentist and get an evaluation done and case if you have a cavity with no nerve exposure it would be better to
consult a dentist and get the filling of the tooth done with a tooth coloured filling material so as to prevent further decay..
In case if the infection has approximted the nerves
Root Canal treatment is indicated..
Hope this information helps..
