Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My niece was just diagnosed with cervical cancer. It was detected when kidneys began to nonfunction. It was detected as a mass that was causing the kidneys to fail and subsequent tests confirmed that it was cancer of the cervix. what is the typical prognosis for this diagnosis?
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
Prognosis in such cases depends on several factors, such as age, tumor stage and exact tumor type so I would need more info about this. If there is involvement of kidneys and ureter as you say then this is generally a bad sign and may indicate stage IV of tumor and prognosis is prtty poor in such cases. It must be treated by multimodal therapy which include surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. This will be long fight but she must be strong and go through all this since this is the only way to prolong her life and lead to cure in some cases. Not in much cases, but even complete cure is possible if tumor is sensitive to chemotherapy.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
