Hi. I woke up this morning. With chest pains, when I breath in heavily it s painful and when I walk and move it s painful, it all seems to be in the left side. And across the Middle when I breath in. I am a smoker and recently had a flemmy chest infection which I didn t get treated, my doctor over the phone said it sounds like a muscle, but I haven t done anything for that to be the case? I m worried as even moving my arm causes pain to the chest Thank you!

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to costochondritis. Pain while palpation on rib area is characteristic. For such condition I would recommend using gels containing anti inflammatory agents like ketoprofen or diclofenac for local application. If pain is more you can take over the counter NSAIDs like ibuprofen ( motrin ). If there is no improvement then local injection of corticosteroids or anesthetic will be helpful. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
