Suggest Treatment For Chills And Cold Sweats While On Macrobid
I have been taking microbid for a UTI . I have taken it several times before with no bad effects. Two days ago I had a very weak spell , cold sweats, chills. That has passed but I have an itchy rash on my calves. Other than my regular medications, I have taken an anti acid for a month with no bad effect. What do you think the cause could be?
The itchy rash on the calves can be caused by a few causes from allergy to medication, nitrofurantoin in your case, to other causes like eczema/dermatitis or infection.
Allergy to medication would be expected to be more spread, affecting more the body and arms and sometimes the face as well. If the rash spreads further, the allergy from the medication you are using can be more likely.
At the moment if the rash is on both calves and is itchy but no swelling and no pain, you can try some local cream with betamethasone 1-2 times a day for a few days. If no improvement in 2-3 days or any worsening then you will need to see your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
