Suggest Treatment For Chronic Constipation Along With Rectal Bleeding

Yes, I have chronic constipation, but today I am having rectal bleeding. not severe but is bleeding into the toilet and bright red on the tissue. Not sure if there is anything I can do at home or if I need to make an appointment with my doctor. My grandmother on my father s side died of colon cancer, so this is a big concern for me. Help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
The most common cause for bleeding per rectum is Haemorrhoids (Piles). The problem of constipation are multi-fold. The common causes are related to inadequate fluid intake, poor dietary intake of vegetables. Usually bleeding piles follows a period of constipation. It tends to stop on its own in a few days. Simple steps like Seitz bath and a mild laxative will be helpful. If the bleeding does not stop in 3 to 5 days a doctor's consul is mandatory. However,if u r more than 40 years do get a local check up done as u have a family history of cancer.
