Suggest Treatment For Chronic Cough And Upper Respiratory Infection
I ve had a variety of upper respiratory illnesses in the last 3 months. I have mild emphysema and asthma, I believe this illness started with Bronchitis. I am currently taking Breo and Levocetirizine. All of my symptoms from asthma and emphysema seem to have subsided. However, I am experiencing a chronic cough that produces clear sputum. Any idea what can cause this?? I did not have this cough several months ago, before the Bronchitis. Thank you in advance, Blessings, Dale Dukes YYYY@YYYY
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of chronic cough and upper respiratory infection which is due to persistence of infection and poor and compromised immunity of body. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult pulmonologist/ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should take antibiotics such as Levofloxacin or Azithromycin for 5-7 days. You should Chew a Vitamin C pellet. Take decongestants and mucolytic agents. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods. Take cough expectorants. You should take anti inflammatory medication as well. You should use throat lozenges and go rinses with warm saline water. Take diet rich in vitamin B12. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. You should get blood test , throat swab test done. You should get an x ray of the chest and pulmonary function tests done as well to know the exact extent of infection and can start treatment accordingly. Gargle with saline rinses.
I think cough is due to chronic bronchitis or chronic infection.
Take few general curative steps like: 1. Stay Hydrated 2. Try Lozenges and Hot Drinks 3. Take Steamy Showers, and Use a Humidifier 4. Remove Irritants From the Air 5. Drugs: - Decongestants:Tablet Diaminic DA twice daily for three to for days - Cough suppressants and expectorants: dextromethorphan, guaifenesin. or cough syrup grinitus 5 ml 3-4 times per day - Tablet levoflaxacin 500 mg once daily for 7 days - Drink plenty of lukewarm water - Tablet sterpsils three times a day - Take proper rest - take honey with turmeric powder - Avoid to go in congested area.
Hope this may help you. Best regards Dr. Sagar
