Suggest Treatment For Chronic Cough In An Infant

Hi Doctor

My baby is 15 months old, recently gone through high temperature nearing 102 however our Doctor has prescribed Calpol and Meftal accordingly.

Currently temperature is under control, but cough seems to be major of concern now. Baby is struggling with it, we are providing Kofarest but no improvement. please suggest

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your baby have symptoms of chronic cough which is due to bacterial infection leading to upper respiratory tract infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles and take steam twice a day. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. You should consult pediatrician once and take proper treatment. You should get X-ray chest done as well to find exact pathology. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics for at least for 5 days along with cough expectorants.
