A chest xray of one of our employees has revealed "Bilateral Prominent Hilar Shadows" & bilateral prominent bronchovascular markings. 21 yr old male, also suffering from chronic coughing. ESR result: 5 (normal range is 0 - 15?) Does he need to see a specialist? Living in Mumbai India....
Bilateral hilar prominence with bronchovascular markings may refer to mild chronic inflammation of the small air passages in the lungs. It is better to consult a pulmonologist and get tests like spirometry which evaluate lung volumes and then take any medications if necessary. It is not clear if these findings are due to some diffuse lung condition which needs to be controlled. Smoking must be avoided and exposure to dust limited.
