I have been having very fast passage of food through my digestive system. I have had this symptom for about 3 years but I had always attributed it to stress/bad marriage/etc. However I have been out of my bad relationship for 2 years yet the symptoms are beginning to worsen. I am diagnosed with chronic major depression and generalized anxiety; I also attributed my fast transit time to anxiety. For the past 3 years I have only had 3 normal formed stools, all others were usually VERY loose, barely holding form in the water, next it has progressed to unformed loose stool. My movements seemed to mostly be the loose form with a few unformed episodes. As of the past 3 months it seems the majority are now unformed and now I am getting more watery stool. Usually they are yellow in color but often I have green as well. Tonight, and the reason I decided to ask here, I had a burger just 6 hours ago and I just saw pieces of lettuce in my stool; I have not had lettuce in over a week aside from this sandwich today. This rapid of transit time is now my normal . Is this most likely due to my stress/depression/anxiety (which are not currently medicated) or could I be suffering from an infection? I also have a hiatal hernia and take Omeprazole daily. I did take anxiety/depression meds in the past but it seems the prozac s method of action (serotonin increase) caused the digestion condition to worsen; I have not taken any medications (other than omeprazole) in 2 years. It has taken 3 years to progress to this point (more watery/unformed) so I didn t worry about it too much, I just thought I wasn t handling stress well...but considering how long it s been going on and it hasn t improved I m beginning to worry.
