Suggest Treatment For Chronic Diarrhea In An Elderly Person

I am 54 years old and have been plagued for years with many of these symptoms. Now others are also popping up. I am frustrated because I KNOW something is NOT right in my body & do not know what the problem is.I have been experiencing chronic diarrhea (8-10 explosions per day), pins/needles in my feet with the feeling of extreme heat, lower back spasms, high BP, Really bad eyesight and it is quickly getting worse (legally blind without my glasses) I have had high readings for Glaucoma but then it evened out I guess, brain fog (trouble remembering daily instructions, names & ph. # s that I ve known for years), muscle weakness, vertigo (I fall a lot), both insomnia & extreme fatigue, chronic migraines, bad headaches, easily bruise, excessive thirst & urination & depression. My hand will tremor (this is not an every day occurrence)and many days I have difficulty with dropping stuff.I am a carrier of Hemochromatosis, was also diagnosed in 1992 with Diabetes Insipidus (No longer take DDAVP due to finances), in 2002 I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia severe and have had gallbladder removed in 2016 & total hysterectomy when I was 25.

Hello,

As a first line management, you can take antimotility drugs like racecadotril for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult a gastroenterologist and get evaluated. Gastroenteritis is a possible cause for loose stools.

Oral rehydration solution( ORS) is necessary to prevent dehydration.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
