Suggest Treatment For Chronic Pyelonephritis

I have recently been in hospital with cronic pyelonephritis on intravenous antibiotics, and been released with a course of antibiotics that didn t work and the infection persisted. I have just been put on another course 4 days ago and the pain has increased. I just had an ultrasound and my right kidney is 1cm larger than my left, is the infection causing this and what recommendations do you have as the antibiotics don t seem to be working.

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

I understand your query and concern.

Antibiotics like Norfloxacin twice daily for 5 days can be given in pyelonephritis but if quinolones are not working then you can also be given Vancomycin,Linezolid,Cephalosporins group of drugs which can also be useful in your case.

Your doctor can also send blood culture and sensitivity report to the lab and by this way we can determine the appropriate antibiotic to work.
These drugs should be taken under strict prescription of your doctor.

If the person is hemodynamically stable in case of Pyelonephritis ,then there is overall prognosis is good.

Regular monitoring of Renal function tests and follow up with your Nephrologist is helpful.

Hope this will help you.

Regards,
