Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I caught a rash on my groin, both sides, from using a public shower. I have had it for roughly ten years. It flares up sometimes and itches like crazy. When i scratch it it gets red and bumpy. Can you tell me what it is and what would kill it for good?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have chronic rashes in the groin . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like varicella zoster , sexually transmitted diseases , lice and scabies , psoriasis or dermatitis. I would suggest you to keep the area clean and dry , take over the counter anti histamine like zyrtec , wear loose cloths ,apply over the counter antibiotics ointment and apply cold compresses . If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe oral anti fungal like fluconazole or anti bacterial depending upon the diagnosis along with corticosteroid ointment .
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
