Hi, just wanted to check. I ve been given sudafed to try and help chronic sinusitis. Upon reading the leaflet in the box it says not to take with MAOIs. I take 20mg of Citalopram daily. I have been told to take the Sudafed for 7days. Is it ok to take both together? Thanks
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of chronic sinusitis due to which doctor prescribed Citalopram along with Sudafed which is nearly a safe combination to use as Citalopram is a SSRI drug and the interactions with Sudafed will be minimal. If in case you will start experiencing symptoms such as hearing sounds, vibrations, tinnitus then you should avoid these combinations. Due to adverse interactions the drug should be avoided with antidepressants. Commonly TCA and MAOI antidepressants react with this drug. If any symptoms of adverse effect persists visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment as per that. Sip on warm saline gargles.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
