Suggest Treatment For Chronic Throat Pain

Hi, I am seeking an ear nose and throat Doctor. I have seen around 7 doctors. No dagnosis. I have seen two different ENT specialist. Symptoms. Pain in the throat. It is in the tonsils, left side. Tightness, feels like ball in there, constant pain equivalent to strep throat. All Dr s have said not tonsillitis or strep. Does not hurt when I swallow, in fact it alleviates pain. Only hurts when I talk really. On going for two years off and on. - on consistently for the last 5 months. Before that it was on two days or so, off for 5 or so. I did have a massage in the last month and for two days following that it did not hurt, not sure if it was related. What I have tried with doctors advice: 1. Allergy pills, several kinds -no help 2. Muscle relaxers prescribed - no help 3. Antibiotics prescribed - no help 4. CT scan - nothing was found, not cancerous 5. Camera inserted through nostril to view throat, nothing found. 6. Electro pads for muscle relaxation - no help 7. Ibuprofen tends to take pain away, but I have to take about 15 a day. 8. Massage- not sure if it helped, but two days following there was no pain. I don t think it is muscle related because I would think the muscle relaxers would help. I have spent close to $2,000 after insurance help (good insurance) and a good amount of time trying to figure out what is wrong with me. Any insight would be much appreciated. Ross

Hi,

Thank you for consulting us and sorry for such trouble from your throat. Now it seems this has taken you round with no relief. The first thing you have made all necessary consultations and medications. This seems to be done thing in the vocal cords since it is reacted to talking.

It is not infection or tonsilitis since you have no temperature and pain when swallowing. This is likely to be growth so still the doctor may have missed the swelling. Do not be afraid to go for second opinion from ENT surgeon. A repeat CT scan. Remember doctors can miss a diagnosis just to be told it's too obvious by the next doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mutuma Geoffrey Zambezi
