Suggest Treatment For Cirrhosis With A Meld Score Of 16
my husband has cirrhosis and has a meld score of 16. he was in the hospital for 5 days due to a high fever - the doctors lowered the fever right away and it never spiked again. they could not find any infection - he was on antibiotics while in the hospital. he was released on tuesday and his legs are more swollen than normal, no real pain but very puffy. he normally takes furosemide, but while in the hospital was not on it - he is able to walk. not sure what we can do or if he should take anything else? tld
The cirrhosis with meld score of 16 indicates hampered liver functioning and one of the major impact is protein synthesis and metabolism disturbances causing hypoalbuminemia and protein loss in the urine. The cause of leg swelling does not respond to diuretic as furosemide because the issue is that of protein problems. Kindly share your husband`s lab tests depicting serum proteins, AG ratio, SGPT, SGOT and serum creatinine with urine microscopy for further assistance please.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
