Understanding your concern. As per your query your son is having symptoms of cold, cough and difficulty in breathing which is a sign of respiratory tract infection which is leading to shortness of breath. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to use room humidifier and vapor rub that will give benefits to your child. Steam inhalation is very effective but you have to be very careful while giving it to your child. give your child short course of antibiotics such as Amoxicillin or azithromycin for 5-7 days along with Antihistamine such as Chlorpheniramine. Take diet rich in vitamin B12. Visit pediatrician once and get it examined. Get chest X-ray done and start treatment after proper diagnosis. You should use throat lozenges and go rinses with warm saline water.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
