Suggest Treatment For Cone Dystrophy And Nystagmus
Hi there, I m 26 years and I was born with macular cone dystrophy (wet, I think) and nystagmus... I am still 100% independent and I can drive with a bioptic lense. However, I am wondering about the progression of stem cell research for these conditions, as well as some reputable sources. Thanks,Johnny
Macular cone dystrophy is extensively studied especially for stem cell therapy. Many stem cell types like induced pleuripotent stem cells (iPSCS) and embryonic stem cells (ESC) are being tried on a large scale to assess the possibility of these stem cells growing into retinal pigment epithelium cells. There are other factors survival and integration of these transplanted stem cells and prevention of immune rejection reactions. Very soon we will see a breakthrough hopefully.
Hope I have answered your question. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you. Take care.
Regards,
